my felted "Kellybag"

I was gifted with some Iceland Lopi wool when my g/f from Ottawa came to visit, so I started crocheting a tote with no pattern, and I actually finished it while she was here on her visit. She was learning to crochet so while she practiced I crocheted too.

Iceland Lopi Island Fleece 100% pure virgin wool
4 - 100g skeins used

BEFORE FELTING:
20" length, 13" height, 9" wide, 9' I-Cord made with the giant "Cool Spool Super Knitter"

AFTER FELTING: (3 trips in the washer)
17" length, 9 1/2" height, 7 1/2" wide, 6' I-Cord

Oooh, it turned out beautiful. I shaped the sides like the infamous "Booga Bag". I was so proud of it, not only turned out but from my own "in head" pattern. She is sending me some more Lopi wool so I will be making my own Kellybag in awhile and will venture to write out the pattern while I make it. This kind of Lopi was very soft to work with too. If only I had a video of when my g/f Kelly was modelling the bag on the deck...we laughed ourselves into sore stomachs, LOL.

I still want to make the actual Booga Bag too, I have the proper size circs now, just have to get the Kureyon.

I'm a yarn winding maniac

BallwinderRoyal

Woooooooohoooo, I am a yarn winding maniac. Every time I saw this thing sitting in Ram Wools I had angst whether to pay the price. When my g/f from Ottawa was here last weekend and we went YARN SHOPPING I finally bought it. Now that I've used it, and crocheted from the centre wind ball that it makes I LOVE IT!! It was worth every penny (and you don't want to know what it cost in Canada :( It was still worth the coin though, bigtime.

I'll be updating with pics more over the weekend I hope. Trying to get back into a routine and this working 5 days a week is kicking my ass after a relaxing summer.

Everyone in the path of the hurricane please stay safe. All us Canadians have you in our thoughts.

comments

I'm behind on answering your comments everyone, please give me some time to catch up on writing my thoughts back to you and answering questions. I always think the answers but just have to take time to answer in the blog since I'm tele'pathetic' not telepathic, LOL
Please know I read them all and totally appreciate your comments.

Here's Curlydog trying to beam our thoughts to you through the camera, haha

update on life and lack of time thereof :)

Yikes, I feel like I'm falling behind in everything. With classes starting at the University last week I'm so beat by the time I get home that all I have the energy to do is supper, play with the doggy a bit and flop on the couch. Anyways, forgive me for my lack of blogging for awhile til I catch up on things.

I finished reading The Shop on Blossom Street on the weekend, now I'm itching for A Good Yarn so I don't miss the characters in the book.

I have a few doilies finished but have not yet taken pics or blocked 3 of them.

I started crocheting the Halcyon Shawl from Crochetme on the weekend. It is being made out of my luscious scrump-deli-icious Sirdar Yoyo yarn. That's the stuff that has the slowwwww gradation color changes like Joanne's Rainbow Boucle. It is absolutely wonderful to look at. I started the pattern, made 14 rows, did a stitch count and was off more than I could fudge back so, you guessed it - F.R.O.G. back to zero and start again. This time I was over-counting, if that's possible, and my stitch count is bang on. Success is happening - yay!!

Also finished the Rah-Rah cape last week. It looks so perfect from the back but I don't like at all how it fits me in the front.
I think it's a better bedcape so I'm going to send it to my mom. Will probably be a great shoulder warmer to keep on the couch when she's watching TV. God forbid if you ever phone her when she's watching Dr. Phil, LOL, she'll make ya call back.

My g/f from Ottawa is coming to see me on Friday for a few days so it'll be a weekend of coffee, cheesecake and chocolate!! I haven't seen her for about 5 1/2 years so yah, we're both excited. She's only her til Monday so we'll fit lots of words in those hours, LOL. We talk all the time on the phone though, but it'll still be nice to see her. The first stop we're doing is Michael's and the next is either one of the more expensive LYS. We're dying to go yarn shopping together. She knows how to knit but wants me to show her how to crochet so we will have SO much fun doing that. Then I can get her hooked on yarn too, hehe.

I've been keeping up with Big Brother 6 show - that finale is next Tuesday. Survivor starts this Thursday and Lost starts next Wednesday, so that's probably the only TV I have time for anyways.

I've started "knitting" a feather and fan scarf for my mom too,...that's mostly a lunchtime and coffee project, the knitting thing.

Oh, almost have my VERY FIRST EVER crocheted sock done too. It's looking good so far, just have to finish the toe and heel part. The only thing about making socks is the "pair" thing...I always like making one of something,...too much pressure of "Pairs" - I know that probably sounds dumb, but just always want to be starting something new after one is done. Probably a lot of you out there feel that too. Go on, admit it, I won't tell anyone. :)

Okay,...wow, I actually wrote a blog entry!!

Long weekend thoughts

Well I was going to start crocheting my Halcyon shawl out of the Sirdar YoYo today but it's hot hot outside and the power is off. We had another helluva windstorm and rain last night around 2 am and as of 10ish this morning it is still off. Got up and needed coffee of course, so we boiled water on the BBQ to make it. It worked great too!! It was scary during the storm though, I woke up and just heard the sound of the windspeed blowing the trees and could imagine that trees were being blown down like the last storm, but thank goodness they all stayed standing.

Anyways, back to the Halcyon shawl. I'll put that on hold til a cooler day (and damn those are coming way too soon). I'm anxious to start it though so I can see the gradation in the yarn. Ridiculous price of $45 a ball, but I don't have a Joanne's here and the buggers won't ship to Canada so I can't get the beautiful Rainbow Boucle that everyone is making the Serapha Shawls out of. I still want to make one of those too, and desperately want to try the Joanne's rainbow yarn yet. I think a Seraphina in the dark pink and black and white colorway would go perfect with my work wardrobe.

So I did finish two oval doilies while drinking my morning javas this weekend. I found the pattern in an old magazine I picked up at at the used bookstore. Will post pics later. I want to get them blocking today. I found my little travel clothes steamer and it works perfect for blocking, so easy and fast. Will wait for the power and my energy to come on for that too.

I'm ready and with supplies to start my first pair of crochet socks!!ready-for-socks

The pattern I'm trying first is from the first issue of Crochetme. I know Deneen tried this one and had good success. I'm also trying out a bamboo hook for the first time. I was lucky to find the sock size, E, 3.5mm, in bamboo on clearance at Michaels for $2. I'm looking forward to trying out socks for the first time, even with the mugginess and heat and no AC for awhile, it is a small enough project that it won't heat me up.

Sigh...classes start at University on Tuesday so it's gonna be a "nutso" and exhausting week.

I'm still reading "A shop on Blossom Street" and liking it a lot. Perfect light summer reading. I'll have to wait for the paperback or check ebay for "A Good Yarn" cause I know I'll want to read it.

UPDATE - the power came back on around noon. Can't imagine being without power for days and all the rest of other devastation that the Katrina victims are going through.

Holiday stash

One thing I hadn't posted yet was my pic of my holiday stash shopping. When I was on holidays I allowed myself "guilt-free" yarn shopping - what a great plan for holidays hey? My long coveted Microspun LB yarn - used to make the ripple shawl. Also, first time I ever saw the Sirdar YoYo yarn - woooo. At $45 a pop, I'm glad I saw it on holidays and could buy it guilt-free. And because I don't have a Joanne's here and they won't ship to Canada :( I haven't been able to try the Joanne's Rainbow Boucle yet, so you bet I bought the Sirdar YoYo. Also finally picked up some sock yarn to try as well, and Homespun yarn on sale for less than $5. Normally it's priced at 7.99 at Michaels. Anyways, yarn makes me happy so I got it all.

I think my dog liked it too, LOL - look at that smile!!
